Petition for Legislative and Executive Action
Defense of Marriage
We, the delegates of the Southern States, in Congress assembled, make the following petition to the Legislative and Executive officials of our States and demand:
That the officials of our several States seize and exercise the authority granted them by the People to resist the Obergefell v. Hodges decision on same-sex marriage as an unwarrantable violation of centuries of practice under Biblical and English Common Law by:
- Denying the Obergefell v. Hodges decision of the Supreme Court of the United States as valid under Law within our States.
- Denying that the Supreme Court of the United States has any legislative power.
- Affirming our prevalent State laws and Constitutional provisions regarding marriage.
Adopted 14 November 2015 at the Eighth Annual Session of the Southern National Congress at Dickson, Tennessee and ordered to be transmitted to the Executives and Legislators of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.
What is liberty without wisdom and without virtue?
